McKenzie Brown is a Dallas-based Oak Cliff songwriter whose music turns heartbreak, grit, faith, exhaustion, and defiance into hook-heavy Americana with a sharp tongue and a full heart. Her songs live somewhere between soulful storytelling and barroom rebellion: funny, raw, bruised, and still reaching for the light.

Brown built her reputation the old-fashioned way: by writing honestly, playing often, and winning rooms one show at a time. She got her start playing for hours on a Bishop Arts street corner, cutting her teeth in front of whoever happened to walk by, and has worked her way from the sidewalk to air-conditioned rooms across Dallas and North Texas. She now holds a residency at Troy’s in Arlington and has performed at venues including Three Links, The Mitchell, Henry’s Majestic, Bishop Exchange, Ferris Wheeler’s, Shady’s Burger Joint, Lakewood Brewing, Patrick Kennedy’s Irish Pub, Penn to Paper, Arts Mission Oak Cliff, Bee Hippy, and Far Out Dallas. She was also a member of the inaugural Dallas Sounds busking cohort, bringing live music to parks and public spaces throughout the city.

Her original work has begun to carve out its own lane. Brown was recently a featured artist at Club Dada, has performed with her band at Tulips, and brought Opening Bell Coffee close to capacity for a November 2025 show.

Her first two singles are out now, with the rest of her debut EP currently in production at Denim Diablo Sounds. Her single “Keepin On” was praised by the Dallas Observer as “funny and refreshingly raw,” with the paper calling it independent songwriting “at its most relatable.” The track captures Brown’s gift for turning cosmic frustration into something communal: a little wounded, a little wry, and impossible not to sing along with.

With a growing live schedule, a band sharpened by regular gigging, and songs that refuse to sit politely in the background, McKenzie Brown is emerging as one of Oak Cliff’s most compelling new Americana voices.

"McKenzie has become a strong part of our rotation at The Mitchell"

Tab H., tHE MITCHELL

We recently added Happy Hour music to our weekly routine, and McKenzie has become a strong part of our rotation at The Mitchell. Her set brings a vibrant, easygoing energy that perfectly suits the after-work/early evening crowd. She has a unique voice and sound—soulful, clear, and unique—that draws people (and keeps them there) in without overpowering the room. She has a mix of offbeat covers and great originals that keep the set feeling fresh, and she's great at reading the room and adapting as needed. (Our bar can vary from a very calm crowd to a high-energy happy hour, so her ability to adapt her set to that makes a huge difference!) She’s professional, low-maintenance, and always comes on time and prepared. Mac is a reliable, engaging performer who brings just the right amount of spark to make sure they actually are happy hours.
